How to Upload Photos
To display your photos on your website, you need to upload your photos to PhotoMerchant.
Before you can upload, you need to create galleries (repositories for your photos). If you need help creating galleries, take a look at the ‘How to Create a Gallery’ guide.
Once you’ve created a gallery, uploading photos is easy.
Step 1: Navigate to the Photos tab on the PhotoMerchant navigation bar.
Step 2: Decide which gallery you want to upload into.
Tip: if you don’t have any photos in the gallery, you will see an empty cross as the gallery cover image, as in the ‘Niagara Falls’ example below.
Step 3: Click ‘Upload Photos’. A new browser window will open.
Tip: The uploader tool uses a Java applet. You may see a note while the Java applet opens.
Step 4: When your uploader window opens, you will see an empty white space. This is your ‘upload queue’ – your opportunity to identify the set of images you want to upload into this gallery.
You can drag and drop images on to this space, or click the buttons to upload individual files or whole folders or images. Clicking these buttons will open a Windows Explorer window.
Tip: Do you know how to select multiple images? Hold down the Ctrl key while you select the images you want to add, then drag them on to the white uploader panel.
Step 5 – optional: Now that you’ve added all your images to the uploader screen you can choose to perform some basic image tasks. You will also be able to perform these tasks once the images have been uploaded.
- Rotate images: Hover your cursor over an image and you’ll see two circular arrows. These indicate that you can rotate the image left or right.
- Preview image: Click the magnifying glass to show a larger preview of the image.
- Delete an image: Click the X in the upper right corner to delete an image from the upload queue. If you delete an image from this window, it won’t be uploaded. If you don’t want to upload an image, delete it now, as this will save upload time.
Step 6: When you’re happy with your upload queue, it’s time to upload your images – just click the ‘Upload Photos’ button on the right.
Step 7: When your images are uploading, you’ll see an uploading bar. This shows the progress of each image as it uploads, so you’ll see this bar increasing and decreasing frequently through the upload.
The speed of this upload depends on your internet connection and the number of images you’re uploading. If you have a slow connection, you may like to try uploading just a few images at once.
When all the images are uploaded, this upload window will close and you will return to the main PhotoMerchant window.
Tip: You will be able to see the progress of your upload when you check back on your photos page – you’ll see the number of photos in your gallery increasing.
Tech notes: At Step 6, you begin transferring your image files in to the PhotoMerchant web storage space. This storage space is protected and available solely for your use. It is subject to extensive backup and fail-safe processes so you can be confident that when you upload your images to PhotoMerchant, your photos won’t ever be ‘lost’.
